Updates ·
This week in the Hive: 30 October to 6 November
This is the first of a weekly build log. It lists what reached a release, taken from the release notes of each change, not from plans. Nothing here is listed unless it shipped.
Getting started
- First setup is one screen. Sign in with your Claude plan, press Finish, and type your first request. Sharing, power, sandbox and model choices moved to Settings with the same defaults.
- A new install on a Linux machine with no desktop adds the server module, which checks the setup and gives you backups and memory limits.
- Phone calls and voice memos ship as optional modules; phone setup and voice setup turn them on.
- Updates are slower on purpose. A new Hive installs at most one release a day, once it has been out for 12 hours. How often to update in Settings changes that.
- Windows and Mac installs that stop partway can be sent to the makers, only with a yes: the step and an error label, no log.
What you see
- While you were away is a short brief, at most 15 lines: what was made, what was decided for you, up to five things that need you, and what broke, with every row one click away.
- Where things stand now opens a new conversation: what needs you, what finished, what is still going, and each project.
- Finished conversations fade in the list when nothing in them is left for you. They stay open to read and write in, and come back when something new in them is for you.
- Helpers' conversations fold under the one they came from, with a link back.
- Needs you sections have a tickable to-do list, and a conversation can be marked important with a star.
- The dashboard no longer says an agent hasn't seen a post it had already read and answered.
Control and cost
- Run-finished phone alerts: an optional button in Settings, "Also tell me when a run I started ends".
- A dollar cap per run (Settings, or
hive budget 5). - Messages you send from the dashboard are signed by your browser.
- Settings lists saved secrets by name and when each was set, with Replace and Remove.
- A heavy job now waits for more free memory while a voice call is live.
Agents
- Agents say why they stop, in the status line at the top of the conversation, and keep working when they have no good reason to stop.
- A stop means stop: helpers still waiting to start are dropped, and agents on a free model cannot start more of them.
- An agent that ends a result with a
Next:line can be carried on by the starter, in a project that turns this on. - An agent that falls short twice on a smaller model takes its next wake on a larger one.
- A new agent sees up to three other active conversations on similar topics, so it can ask, borrow or stand down instead of building the same thing twice.
- Your Hive can offer to report gaps in its tools: an agent drafts an issue, you read it in Settings, and nothing is filed until you press Send.
Memory
- A message now arrives with up to five pointers to related notes in the knowledge base, found in about 0.2 seconds, and each note is pointed to once.
- Search marks passages that a newer note replaces and ranks them below a current one.
kb statsshows how often results and pointers are actually read, and repeated searches that find nothing become gaps for the nightly pass to fill.
Speed
- A message you post is picked up within a fraction of a second, instead of up to three seconds.
Not shipped
Still open, and not yet released: a measured weekly cost for a Pro login (the guide's figure for it is a guess from published ratios), and a test run of the Mac installer on a real Mac. The first public numbers are in what it costs to run.
